Submissions Information

Our submissions and query policy for authors and illustrators:

Authors and illustrators should note that Black Sparrow Books does not accept unsolicited manuscripts, portfolios, or proposals. Authors and illustrators are advised to have their agent contact us if they would like us to consider a project. There is no need to address your letter to a particular editor. We prefer query letters rather than full manuscript submissions. If you still would like to send in unsolicited submissions for consideration, please address them to the Editorial Department, attn: Black Sparrow Books Submissions, at our Boston office. Due to the large number of submissions that we receive, we will not be able to return any materials, or reply to any queries, that are not accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope (SASE). Any materials sent that do not include sufficient postage to cover the expense of their return will be held for 90 days and then destroyed. Please note that we do not reply to queries via email, as we will only accept queries and submissions that are submitted via regular mail. Please do not telephone the office and please do not submit anything by e-mail.

We strongly advise against sending original artwork or unreplacable documents; while all reasonable care will be taken with such materials, we cannot be held responsible in the event of damage or loss.
